STRONGSVILLE, Ohio – September 11, 2007 – Chrysler LLC has approved the PPG Envirobase® High Performance and Nexa Autocolor Aquabase® Plus waterborne basecoat systems from PPG Automotive Refinish for all of its repair facilities globally. All products in the Envirobase® and Aquabase® waterborne basecoat systems are included in the approval, Chrysler LLC’s PF-10537 Exterior Paint Refinish Material/Process Certification for Warranty Repair Paint Performance. These PPG waterborne systems join a long list of Chrysler approved PPG refinish systems including PPG’s DeltronÒ, GlobalÒ, and Nexa Autocolor brands.
“By following Chrysler guidelines, repair facility technicians can be assured of a quality finish,” said Ron Nomura, Global Services Paint/Body Structures Manager at Chrysler LLC’s Dealer Technical Operations. “PPG’s waterborne basecoat sytstems meet all the stringent requirements Chrysler LLC demands for its vehicle refinish repairs.”
PPG and Nexa Autocolor waterborne basecoat systems are being used successfully by thousands of collision centers across Europe, where they have transitioned to stringent VOC regulations. PPG was the innovator of the world’s first commercially-viable waterborne refinish basecoat back in 1992. Aquabase® for OEM applications won the Queen’s Award in the UK in 1990, and in 1995 for Refinish Technology. The Queen’s Awards are the UK’s most prestigious awards for business performance, recognizing outstanding achievement. In 2002, PPG Envirobase® technology won the UK’s Institute of Transport Management Excellence award for best innovation.
According to Doug Beuke, compliant segment manager for PPG North America, “Shops in California and Canada are converting to PPG waterborne systems right now. PPG waterborne basecoat systems are as easy to use as solventborne systems, require no special additives, and feature non-stir toners that make mixing colors particularly fast and easy. PPG waterborne systems also provide consistent color and metallic control across a variety of different application techniques. With all these advantages, converting to a PPG waterborne basecoat system will make shop life easier.”
