STRONGSVILLE, OHIO – August 29, 2006 – Gary Sewell, a machinist instructor, held the winning raffle ticket for a 2007 Dyna Super Glide® Harley-Davidson motorcycle at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference, held June 18 – 24 in Kansas City, Missouri. The bike was raffled to raise funds for SkillsUSA, a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations. The deluxe motorcycle was donated by Harley-Davidson and was custom painted by PPG instructor Paul Stoll.
The Dyna Super Glide features a rubber-mounted, 1584 cc Twin Cam 96® engine, a 6-speed Cruise Drive®™ transmission and a Next-generation, Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) with 02 sensors.
Products from the PPG Vibrance Collection™ were used for the fantastic paint job. The main colors of the bike are Vibrance Blue Heaven Crystal Pearl and DMD 1696 Silver Dollar DBC Base Coat.
The tank features a “rip” revealing a Harley-Davidson logo. The rips are airbrushed in Grey, Black and White DBC base coat. The Real Fire inside of the tears is airbrushed with Yellow and White DBC base coat and Radiance II Sunshine Yellow, Orange Glow and Sunset Red DBC Base Coat. The parts were sprayed with DC4000 Deltron Velocity Premium Clear.
Paul Stoll, who was instrumental in developing the Vibrance Collection Custom Paint Classes for PPG, spent over 100 hours executing the paint job.
Gary Sewell, who is an instructor at the Etowah County Career Technical Center in Gadsen, Alabama, bought the winning ticket at the conference. He attended the conference with his student, who was the Alabama state winner in precision machining technology. During his many years of involvement with SkillsUSA, he has coached ten students to win the SkillsUSA state competition. As to winning the bike, Gary enthuses, “I’m lovin’ it! I feel like a kid at Christmas time.” Gary was a motorcycle enthusiast and rode often when he was younger. Although he hasn’t ridden in several years, he now rides the new Harley almost every day. How does he feel about the paint job? “What a beautiful job! I get comments on this bike nearly every day.”
This year’s SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference marks the 42nd year the conference has been held. Nearly 14,000 people participated in the weeklong event, including more than 4,800 career and technical education students, all state contest winners, who competed in hands-on contests. Competitions were held in 84 different trade, technical and leadership fields.
PPG has been a supporter of SkillsUSA (formerly VICA – Vocational Industrial Clubs of America) since the organization was founded in 1965.
