LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – April 5, 2006 The winner of the “Big Rig Build-Off” at the Mid-America Trucking Show held March 23 – 25 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville utilized PPG finishes to showcase their creation. PPG Automotive Refinish’s Commercial Coatings co-sponsors the Stars & Stripes Mid-America Build-Off truck beauty competition with Jones Performance, a manufacturer of hoods and fenders in West Middlesex, Pennsylvania. PPG provides primers, topcoats and clearcoats to the teams competing in the event.

A 1998 Peterbuilt rebuilt by Adrian Custom Welding of Von Ormy, Texas took home the top prize. Featuring a 12V 71 engine, the truck boasts 950 h.p. with an 18 speed transmission. All the work including fabrication, interior and paintwork was done at the Adrian Custom Welding facility. The paintwork and custom graphics were designed and applied by Raymond Lund of Rainman Grafix in San Antonio, Texas. The 2-tone paint scheme featured PPG’s Champagne Pearl and Candy Brandywine.

“We used the Concept (DCC) paint system from PPG for all the paintwork,” said Adrian Rocamontes, owner of Adrian Custom Welding. “As far as I’m concerned PPG offers the best paint on the market. It’s user-friendly, it’s durable and the results are fantastic.”

“The Big Rig Build-Off was created to promote the advancement of truck design through a competition among leading-edge custom truck designers to showcase the creativity and capabilities of today’s custom truck builders and their sponsors,” said Bud Farquhar, director of Stars & Stripes LLC. “This year’s entries certainly met those goals. These fabulous rigs are both beautiful and practical. This type of innovation serves to enhance the overall image of the trucking industry.”

Attendees at the show determined the winner, voting electronically by swiping their name badges through a card reader. It is estimated that over 80,000 people attended the Mid-America Trucking Show. Rocamontes accepted the Champion’s Trophy at a ceremony held at the conclusion of the show.
