A check for $134,000 was presented to the LLS during the ceremony, representing the funds raised during the past year through the Charity Chopper fundraising initiative.

FT. WORTH, Texas – November 7, 2005 – The 10 month long fundraising effort sponsored by PPG Automotive Refinish, Ray Evernham of Evernham Motorsports and Dave Perewitz of Perewitz Cycle Fab reached its pinnacle Sunday, November 6, 2005, at the Texas Motor Speedway prior to the Dickies 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race. Representatives from all three fundraising sponsors were on hand to present the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) with a check for the funds raised in 2005.

Ray Evernham, owner of Evernham Motorsports, legendary bike builder, Dave Perewitz and Garry Goudy, senior vice president, Automotive Aftermarket for PPG Industries presented a check for $134,000 to Tina May Garcia, Executive Director of the North Texas Chapter of the LLS.

During the ceremony, the Charity Chopper, the centerpiece of the fundraising initiative, was presented to the proud new owner, Mike Murphy. He was also presented a special scrapbook containing photos and articles about the project that have been published since the fundraising effort was introduced in March 2005. The scrapbook contains the autographs of numerous NASCAR personalities who have supported the initiative, as well as documentation of every event and article written about the Charity Chopper.

The Charity Chopper, a custom Pro-street V-twin motorcycle was conceived by PPG, Evernham, and Perewitz and built by Perewitz Cycle Fab. The chopper features a fabulous Liquid Crystal paint finish from the PPG VibranceCollection ä and a signature flamed paint design by Dave Perewitz. The chopper also sports autographs of several NASCAR celebrities and drivers, including Ray Evernham, Jeremy Mayfield, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Rusty Wallace, Tony Stewart and Kasey Kahne.

In his remarks as Goudy presented the check to the LLS he stated, “I am extremely proud of the Refinish team and the level of ownership they have taken in such an important cause. The Charity Chopper reflects not only the spectacular custom color finishes of the PPG VibranceCollection and the awesome workmanship of Dave Perewitz, but it captures the passion we share with Ray Evernham and his charitable foundation, Racing for a Reason.”

“On behalf of The LLS, we’d like to thank everyone for the tremendous amount of time and effort that has gone into this initiative,” said Garcia. “The Charity Chopper fundraiser has generated a tremendous response and created invaluable support for our cause. We’d also like to give a special thank you for all of the contributors that joined the cause and purchased merchandise. They’ve helped make a significant impact on the way we’re able to help others.”

The Charity Chopper was featured at numerous custom car shows and special PPG events, as well as the NASCAR race in Texas earlier this past year. Funds were raised through several special fundraising activities, merchandising, and monthly e-Bay auctions of exclusive one-of-a-kind items, including NASCAR collectibles.

100% the proceeds from the Charity Chopper fundraiser support the Society (http://www.leukemia-lymphoma.org) and its ongoing efforts to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkins disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
