March 2005 – The Western Mass Chapter of the Massachusetts Auto Body Association is pleased to announce the establishment of an Annual Tool Award for students at the seven vocational schools located in Western Massachusetts.
Vocational teachers from Dean Vocational H.S., Franklin County Technical H.S., Pathfinder Regional Technical H.S., Putnam Vocational H.S., Smith Vocational H.S., Taconic Technical H.S., and Westfield Vocational Technical H.S., will each nominate 2-4 students to receive an assortment of tools worth approximately $500.
Ed Nalewanski, of Ed’s Auto Body in Easthampton, and MABA’s statewide Vice President , along with his wife, Joann, are chairing a committee consisting of Mike Beal of Michael’s Frame and Collision in Westfield, Dale Desmarais (formerly of Enterprise Rent-A-Car), Don Muccino of Acme Automotive in Northampton, and Don Vermette of Vermette’s Auto Body in Agawam. The committee will review nominations and select one student from each school. The awards will be presented at the Collision & Auto Repair Show at the Worcester Centrum in Worcester, MA on Saturday, May 21, 2005.
“Whether through our association or as individual collision repairers, we need to show the vocational students that we are interested in helping them be as prepared as possible when they enter our industry,” said Ed Nalewanski. “This is just one more way we show our appreciation to those who have chosen to pursue a career in auto body repair,” he added.
To help fund the award, the Western Mass Chapter had a “fun” raising trip to Foxwoods Casino on Saturday, February 12 that raised several thousand dollars. Donated tools have been received from Sears, Holyoke Mall, Snap-On Tools, Hutchins Manufacturing Co., National Detroit, ITW Automotive Refinishing, Sharpe Manufacturing, DeWalt and Enterprise Rent-A-Car. The committee is also continuing to accept right up until the May 2005 presentation. Anyone who wishes to donate cash or tools should contact Joann Nalewanski at 413-529-2626 (jnalewanski@charter.net). All donors will be recognized for their efforts at the Trade Show presentation on May 21st.
